    There is a line/exchange in the movie that I feel is pivotal. Sandy says she is not sure whether Geoff is a detective or a pervert. Geoff is not sure either and must enter the closet, which I think think symbolises the dark hidden desires in his mind, and investigate his own nature. Its interesting that Geoff kills Frank ("You're like me") while in the closet, he is symbolically killing his darker desires or conquering them. After this, he is able to embrace the sunny surface world while accepting the dark, just as the Robins can eat the worms.

    • @godfatherofcinema

    You broke this down.😂 I came here because I just watched the movie completely…. Well not really but more than what I watched as a kid.😬 I had to break it up and dozed in a couple spots. I always hated this film but marveled at how my oldest brother LOVED IT! He was the sci-if kid and watched this movie religiously. I actually didn’t even recognize much of the film except the child abduction…the potatoes…and the ending. It was sad to me that Roy chose to follow his own path and completely disregarded his wife and children that he left behind. And he’s even fallen for a new family like WHATT?? I feel like the character wasn’t built up enough. Some of the special effects were amazing to this day, just not the little children greys.😕And what led me to watch this film in 2025? Well I can’t reveal that but I saw some parallels in this film is all I’m saying’. 😶And what’s crazier is 20 years ago I worked for a paper and had the opportunity to attend a small luncheon where Ms. Garr was speaker. I have the most insane synchronicities so maybe I’m resonating with this movie much more than I wanna admit.🤔

    • @godfatherofcinema
      @godfatherofcinema 7 днів тому

      Lol. I know the feeling! I didn't much care for the film when it came out except for the special effects. Thirty or so odd years later, i watched it again and loved it. Guess because I was able to view it through a more mature filter that i was able to appreciate it beyond the awesome special effects. Guess I'm trying to say that I was able to see it less of a film about UFOs and more about love and having someone who shares your vision( which I learned the hard way through personal experience). Thanks.

    In an interview (can’t recall the source) Fellini said that of all the characters he had directed, Cabiria is the one he still worried about the most. For me this film has one of the most disarming fourth wall moments: that final salutation by Cabiria to the camera at the end makes me melt into a puddle of tears… So difficult for me to watch Giulietta Masina as she looks nearly identically to my mother 😢
